James C. Adams was the third child in order of birth, was reared a farmer, and received an education such as the country afforded in his day. At twenty one he began life on his own account, having worked for his mother from the time he was fifteen years old.
In 1875 he purchased 227 acres one mile south of Harris station. In 1883 his residence was destroyed by fire, where he located to where he now resides, one mile north of Silver Creek, on seventy-three acres. He is also possessor of two other tracts of 105 and 12 acres, owning in all 417 acres, all of which he accumultaed by his own industry. In politics he is a Democrat and cast his first presidential vote for Seymour.
JAMES C. ADAMS was born November 21, 1845, in Garrard County, Ky., and is a son of Wesley and Elizabeth (Davison) Adams, to whom three sons and three daughters were born, five of whom were reared. Wesley Adams was born in Virginia, in 1815, and brought to Kentucky when a boy. He died in 1852. His parents lived and died in Virginia. Mrs. Elizabeth Adams was born in Garrard County and is a daughter of Abner and Martha (Grashaw) Davison, both natives of Virginia and early settlers of Garrard County, Ky. Mr. Davison was a substantial and prosperous farmer. He was born in 1797, was of English descent, served for many years as justice of his country, in religion was a Baptist, and died in 1837. He was united in marriage to Nancy Hockaday, a daughter of James S. and Sumyra (Shearer) Hockaday, natives of Madison County. Mr. Hockaday was a farmer and owner of slave property, had raised four sons and three daughters, was a member of Christian Church, in Politics a Democrat. He died in April, 1885, aged sixty-seven. He was a son of James and Elizabeth (Fox) Hockaday, natives of Madison County. The issue from this marriage of Mr. Adams was six children, namely: William W., James W., Robert L., Leslie C., Stella H. and Nannie L. Mr. and Mrs. Adams are members of the Christian Church. Mr. Adams located in Madison County when he became of age. In 1875 he purchased 227 acres one mile south of Harris Station. RICHMOND. Ky, Jan. 30\emdash James C. Adams, 81 years old, prominent retired farmer and former member of the Madison fiscal court, died at his home on Richmond route No. 2. this morning at 4 o'clock. Mr. Adams had been in bad health for about a year but complications re-sulting in pneumonia caused his death. A natlve of Madison coun-ty, Mr. Adams was the son of Wes-ley and Elizabeth Davison Adams. He was a member of the Christian church.
Mr. Adams is survived by his widow, Mrs. Nancy Hockaday Adams; a sister, Mrs. W.L. Hockaday, of Berea; three sons, W. W. Adams, J.W. Adams and L.C. Adams, all of Richmond, and a daughter, Mrs. D.C. Parrish, of Paris. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at the grave in the Richmond cemetery. The pall-bearers will be James Adams, Wil-liam Mason Adams, Lucian Adams and Franklin Million, all of Rich-mond, and James Farris Adams, of Paris.
