MR. WADE'S OPERA COMPANY
Successful Presentation of Fra Diavalo Last Night
Frank A. Wade's opera oompany played Fra Diavolo at the opera house last night, and the opera was so well sung that the large audience was greatly pleased. Mr. Wade's return to Lawrence, bis home, is looked forward to each year by his numerous friends, and eaoh succeed-ing season more prestiguous produc-tions are given with success Mr. Wade was born and raised "in these parts," but it is 'not for that that people attend the theatrical events in whleh his company is the enter-tainer, but because of the real merit in the work of Mr. Wade and his players This season the company has ''taken over" a number of the singers of the Audrews opera com-pany, and with the addition of other good voices a most creditable singing combination has been secured, and with the old operas which are the repertoire of the company, the com-bination has proved a winning one.
Mr. Wade was not seen to advan-tage in Fra Dlavalo last night, being assigned only a minor comedy role, but enough "specialty business" was Introduced to give his friends a chance to greet him again, aud this was done in a most enthusiastic manner by the many friends present. Wade's company is a good one, and real excellence was manifested in many of the features of the presenta-tion of the opera. The scenery and costumes are good, and the presenta-tion grew as it progressed.
The Wade company will be in Lawrence tonight and tomorrow night and Is deserving of any patron-age that may be given it.
