J. Herbert Gulley aged about 33 years, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Gulley, died at his home on Danville street yesterday afternoon about 5 o'clock from the effects of carbolic acid, taken with suicidal intent, in the bathroom of his home. He had threatened on several occasions to end his life, but his jovial and joking nature, had led his friends to believe that he had no such intentions. A few moments before five o'clock yesterday afternoon, he called at the room of Mr. Mike Hays, who rooms in the same building and asked for a glass which Mr. Hays gave him, at the time noticing he held in his left hand an ounce bottle, labeled "poison." Mr. Hays asked what it was and what he was going to do, he replied that he was going to take it, that it was not poison, but just labeled that way, and continued on into the bathroom. In a few moments he returned to the room of Mr. Hays and said he had taken the contents of the bottle and that it was carbolic acid. He laid down on the bed immediately, and said to Mr. Hays, "I'm gone," which were his last words. As soon as it was seen that he had taken the deadly drug, physicians were called and antidotes were administered, but death resulted in less than ten minutes.
About 13 years ago he married Miss Pearl Ross, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Ross and she together with one daughter, Helen, survive. He is also survived by one brother, Mr. L. C. Gulley and two sisters, Mrs. Rozella Dunn of this city, and Mrs. Ike Dunn, of Lexington.
The tragic death of Mr. Gulley was a shock to the entire community and the family have the heartfelt sympathy of all in their sorrow.
Funeral services will be at Lancaster cemetery, tomorrow morning at ten o'clock, conducted by Rev. A. J. Clere, assisted by Eld. F. M. Tinder.

The bride is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs David G. Ross, and is a most lovely and noble young lady. She is exceedly popular among the young people, and is beloved by all who know her. She is exceedingly handsome and attractive, and Mr. Gulley is indeed fortunate in winning her heart and hand. Her fa-ther is known all over the county as one of the biggest-hearted gentlemen in Garrard county, and she is possessed of that noble trait so characteristic of him. Mr. Gulley is a son of J.D. Gulley and is a young man of fine habits and industry. He is a farmer by occupation, and has secured a lot of land on Buckeye which he is now cul-tivating. The Record extends, in advance, its hearty congratulations, and wishes them every joy and happi-ness. The attendants will be Miss Jennie Gulley, sister of the groom,and Mr Ike Dunn.

Mr. and Mrs. Coleman Gulley and son, Horace Gulley, who have spent the summer at their ramp house on Dix River are prolonging their stay. Mr. Gulley and a camp neighbor, Mr. Bourne of Jessamine county, are opening a grocery store in the camp village, Gullbo, a name formed from syllables from the names of the proprietors of the new store. This project should surely prosper; there is an extensive country side for patronage,both gentlemen are genial, and experienced in this business.
The houses of Camp Gullbo follow the line of the steep Dix River banks at that point and overlook the fine river view. A grassy front yard is before each door and leads upon the pleas-ant roadway leading into the vil-lage. An air of neighborlness prevails. Among the all-year- round homes is that of Mr. Garner of the wellknown firm of Baugh and Garner; across on the Boyle county bank is the fishing "box" of Dr. Jackson of Danville.
The Gulleys call their house "Colerene", a combination of the given names of master and mis-tress. Coleman and Irene. It is planned for snugness and con-venience. Mrs. Gulley delightful town house is furnished thruout with antiques; without disturbing these, from her stored ac- quisitions she has dressed her river home interior in old rustic style. At one end of the long living room a wide open fire place invites one. Quaint mantel dressing, old prints and old fire-side chairs give the necessary atmosphere.But wisely,there are wide upholstered arm chairs in flowered cotton coverings where-in one may lounge and admire this picture, or lift the day's newspaper from a candle stand at hand to see what is happening be-yond the river and the hills. The opposite end of the room is filled by a capaciou corner cupboard, drop-leaf dining table and ladder- back chairs where the family meals are served. A door opens into a small kitchen and an unobstrusive stair leads to three bedrooms above. Here are "spool" beds and chests of drawers. A darling home in a nut shell.

Funeral services were set for 2:30 o'clock this afternoon at Kamaey funeral home in Lancaster for Mrs. Mary L. Herring, widow of Bright Herring of Garrard county who died about 7 o'clock Tuesday night at her home in Boyle county.
Except for the past 14 years, during which she resided in Boyle county, Mrs. Herring spent all of her life in Garrard county, where she was born Dec. 21 1865. She attended Mrs. Truhearts Academy for Girls at Stanford.
She was the only child of the late Ashley and Zarilda Gulley and in her early 20s married Will Swope, also of Garrard county. Of this union, three sons were born. Left a widow in 1894, Mrs. Swope taught at various schools in Garrard county dunng the next 15 years, until she married Bright Herring Of this union one daughter was borm.
Mrs. Herring was a devout member of Lancaster Christian Church, where she taught Sun-day school classes for many years. Considered a beautiful girl, she was referred to by many persons as "the belle of Gar-rard' during the early 80s.
Surviving are three sons. J. William Swope. Boyle county; J. Ashley Swope. Dayton. Ohio, and Floyd K. Swope. Cleveland. Ohio; the daughter. Mrs O M Gastiineau, Ontario, Calif.; five grand-children: Floyd K. Swope Jr., Wilmington, Del.; Mrs Don Beck. Cleveland. Ohio; Mrs. John C. Kedman. Denver. Colo.; Alan J. Swope. Cleveland. Ohio, and Sgt. Joe Ashley Swope Jr.. U. S. Ma-rine Corps. Quantico, Va. and one great-grandchild, Miss Joy Swope, Wilmington. Del.
The Kev A. R Robertson, min-ister of Lancaster Christian Church, was to officiate, with in-ternment to follow in the Lan-caster cemetery.

Shelton Gulley Is Retired In Air Force
CHARLESTOWN AFB, S. C. - Master Sergeant Shelton L Gul-ley of Lancaster. Ky. has retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of active duty.
Sergeant Guney, a warehous-ing supervisor prior to his re-tirement. served in Okinawa dur-ing Wold War II and later in Korea.
The sergeant, who attended Lancaster High School, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Gulley of 307 Richmond St., Lancaster.
His wife, Hatllie, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.C.Matherly of Rt. 3, Harrodsburg, Ky.

LANCASTER (Spl.) - Services for Shelton Gulley, 64, who died at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington after a long illness, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Ramsey Funeral Home in Lancaster. The Rev. Robert Gallagher will officiate and burial will be in the Lancaster Cemetery
A resident of Richmond St. in Lancaster, Mr. Gulley was born Feb 21,1913 in Lancaster to the late Lee Coleman and Irene Romans Gulley. He was a member of the Lancaster Christian Church and was a retired Master Sargeant from the U. S. Air Force
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Dean (Coleen) Napier of Hustonville; a son, Shelton Patrick Gulley of Grand Prairie, Tex., and four grand-children: Daryl Shawn and David Wayne Napier and Linda and Vickey Bell Gulley.
Pallbearers will be David and Mike Gallagher and Joe, Mark, Jeff and Garnett Matherly

The Lexington Herald says:"Mrs. W. M. Gulley died at 7 o'clock Friday morning at her late residence, 103 Spring street, after nearly two years illness of consumption. Mrs. Gulley was the wife of W. M. Gulley, who is a traveling salesman for the firm of Martin & Woolfolk. She leaves two brothers, W. T. and J. C. Woolfolk, of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Gulley had no children. Mrs. Gulley was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Woolfolk, of Garrard county, and was a woman of rare christian virtues. The funeral took place last evening at 7:30 o'clock from the residence. Rev. I. J. Spencer of the Central Christian Church officiating. The services were held at night, so the funeral cortege might get an early start this morning as it will drive through to Lancaster, Ky., where the body will be interred at 2 o'clock in the Lancaster Cemetery."

Mrs. Gulley was formerly from Garrard county, and a lovely christian woman indeed. She leaves a husband, mother and four sisters, Mrs. Robert Gulley, Mrs. L. Broaddus, Mrs. J. D. Bourne, of this county, Mrs. Jennie Murphy, of Lexington, and two brothers, Messrs. W. T. and S. C. Woolfolk, also of Lexington.
