J. Herbert Gulley aged about 33 years, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Gulley, died at his home on Danville street yesterday afternoon about 5 o'clock from the effects of carbolic acid, taken with suicidal intent, in the bathroom of his home. He had threatened on several occasions to end his life, but his jovial and joking nature, had led his friends to believe that he had no such intentions. A few moments before five o'clock yesterday afternoon, he called at the room of Mr. Mike Hays, who rooms in the same building and asked for a glass which Mr. Hays gave him, at the time noticing he held in his left hand an ounce bottle, labeled "poison." Mr. Hays asked what it was and what he was going to do, he replied that he was going to take it, that it was not poison, but just labeled that way, and continued on into the bathroom. In a few moments he returned to the room of Mr. Hays and said he had taken the contents of the bottle and that it was carbolic acid. He laid down on the bed immediately, and said to Mr. Hays, "I'm gone," which were his last words. As soon as it was seen that he had taken the deadly drug, physicians were called and antidotes were administered, but death resulted in less than ten minutes.
About 13 years ago he married Miss Pearl Ross, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Ross and she together with one daughter, Helen, survive. He is also survived by one brother, Mr. L. C. Gulley and two sisters, Mrs. Rozella Dunn of this city, and Mrs. Ike Dunn, of Lexington.
The tragic death of Mr. Gulley was a shock to the entire community and the family have the heartfelt sympathy of all in their sorrow.
Funeral services will be at Lancaster cemetery, tomorrow morning at ten o'clock, conducted by Rev. A. J. Clere, assisted by Eld. F. M. Tinder.

Mr. and Mrs. Coleman Gulley and son, Horace Gulley, who have spent the summer at their ramp house on Dix River are prolonging their stay. Mr. Gulley and a camp neighbor, Mr. Bourne of Jessamine county, are opening a grocery store in the camp village, Gullbo, a name formed from syllables from the names of the proprietors of the new store. This project should surely prosper; there is an extensive country side for patronage, both gentlemen are genial, and experienced in this business.
The houses of Camp Gullbo follow the line of the steep Dix River banks at that point and overlook the fine river view. A grassy front yard is before each door and leads upon the pleas-ant roadway leading into the vil-lage. An air of neighborlness prevails. Among the all-year- round homes is that of Mr. Garner of the wellknown firm of Baugh and Garner; across on the Boyle county bank is the fishing "box" of Dr. Jackson of Danville.
The Gulleys call their house "Colerene", a combination of the given names of master and mis-tress. Coleman and Irene. It is planned for snugness and con-venience. Mrs. Gulley delightful town house is furnished thruout with antiques; without disturbing these, from her stored ac- quisitions she has dressed her river home interior in old rustic style. At one end of the long living room a wide open fire place invites one. Quaint mantel dressing, old prints and old fire-side chairs give the necessary atmosphere. But wisely, there are wide upholstered arm chairs in flowered cotton coverings where-in one may lounge and admire this picture, or lift the day's newspaper from a candle stand at hand to see what is happening be-yond the river and the hills. The opposite end of the room is filled by a capaciou corner cupboard, drop-leaf dining table and ladder- back chairs where the family meals are served. A door opens into a small kitchen and an unobstrusive stair leads to three bedrooms above. Here are "spool" beds and chests of drawers. A darling home in a nut shell.
