GLADE SPRING, Va. W.G. "Buck" Davidson, age 79, passed away at his home on Monday June 26, 2017. Buck used hard work and integrity to establish his businesses, Davidson Trucking Co. Inc. and Davidson Paving and Excavating. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a loving husband, father and respected business leader. Buck was preceded in death by his parents, Worley and Elizabeth Davidson; and sister, Barbara Keesee. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Hilda B. Davidson; son, Charles "PeeWee" Davidson and wife, Christine; granddaughter, Jillian Davidson; sister, Helen Vanko and husband, Paul; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday June 30, 2017, at Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Dwight Henry officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Rose Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday evening, June 29, 2017, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Doug Harris, Jamie Harris, Dale Keesee, Odell Bordwine, Sammy Lamie and Wayne Jones. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Williams, Tracy Calahan and Charles Warren. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. The family would like to thank the Glade Spring and Damascus Life Saving Crews as well as Johnston Memorial Hospital E.R. staff for all their help. A James Davidson and a John Davidson , along with John Wily, Thomas Wiley, Thomas Nunnally were witnesses regarding will of Col Samuel Hairston, Gent., in 1782 per Campbell County, Virginia Will Book 1, 1782-1800. Note: In 1781, Samuel Hairston purchased of Charles Caffery, Jr., a large tract of land on the east branches of Beaver Creek, both sides of the main road, lying on a spur of Long Mountain for 10,000 pounds, and shortly afterwards sold 300 acres of it lying on the creeks branches, beginning at Brown's and Lynch's dividing lines on the west side of Cooper's Mountain, to William Hawkins.

Campbell County Tithes:
Young appears for the first time, next to David and David Jr. in 1811. He would have been born about 1794, to be over 16 at that time.

Excerpt from article about the Davidson family, proof as to her burial location.
"The Davidson family was clever, industrious and good neighbors, but there was no financier amoung them. They never accumulated anything of consequence more than a bare living or at least the older set did not. The old man, Younger, was a soldier in the War of 1812. His remains were buried somewhere in the Roseville country in what is called "The Gillock" graveyard with those of his first wife, Melinda."

William E. "Will" Evans, 79, died Friday Sept. 23, 2005 at his home with family by his side.

He was born April 3, 1926 in Smyth County to Thomas Evans and Margaret "Maggie" Frye Evans.

He was a member of the McCready United Methodist Church. Past Commander for 10 years and active member of the Hardy Roberts VFW Post 7328. Employed with Olin Corporation for 21 years, and retired from Cannelton Coal Co., W.Va. he served his country proudly during World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Evans, Thomas Jefferson Evans Jr.; sisters, Kathleen Holmes, Cleo Gillispie and Maude "Crick" Wyatt.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 58 years Zola Davidson Evans; daughters and son-in-laws, Wilma and Mick Arnold of Bristol; Naomi and Bill Coe of Bassett; Mary Ann and Donnie Harris of Saltville; Debbie and David Spence of Saltville; sons and daughter-in-laws, Kenneth and Brenda Evans of Saltville; Eddie and Cecile Evans of Piney Flats, Tenn.; Mike and Terri Evans of Hickory, N.C.; and Tim and Liz Evans of Bristol; sisters, Maxine Smith of Chilhowie; Alice Ford of Barberton, Ohio, and Lois Kestner of Saltville; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and many special friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005 at the McCready United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Roe and Clarence Frye officiating. Graveside services were held Monday, Sept. 26, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Rose Cemetery, Glade Springs, with military honors. The family received friends at the church prior to the service.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Evans, Eddie Evans, Mike Evans, Tim Evans, Mick Arnold, Bill Coe, Donnie Harris and David Spence. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Wayne Reynolds and grandsons.

David Paul "Pop" Davis

David Paul "Pop" Davis, 82, of Madison Heights, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at his residence. He was the husband of Frances Dodd Davis for 50 years.

Born in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Jesse Franklin Davis and the late Goldie Gertrude Jones Davis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, David Paul Davis Jr.; one brother; and two sisters.

David was a retired foreman from Rock Tenn Corp. after 34 years of service and a former employee of Consolidated Textile Corp. for 12 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and puttering around, but most of all, he enjoyed his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Christy, of Madison Heights, Sandra D. Cawthorne, of Evington, Frankie Davis and his wife, Pam, of Forest, and Donna Davis Neighbors and her husband, Mike, of Goode; his special granddaughter, Sydney Staples, and six other grandchildren, Katrina, Colby, Erin, Chris, Duncan and David; ten great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Dillon, Cameron, Kylie, Skylar, Tatum, Cooper, Collin, Cindy and Claire; and, with extreme thanks to Kristie Napier, a special family friend.

A funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Whitten Monelison Chapel by Mr. Derrick Landon. Interment will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at Virginia Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at Whitten Monelison Chapel after the service, and at other times at the residence.

Frances Dodd Davis, age 80, of Madison Heights, widow of David Paul Davis, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2018. Frances was born on July 29, 1938 in Buchanan, Virginia, daughter of the late William Langford Dodd and Virginia Mae Davidson Dodd. She worked for General Electric Corporation for twenty years after which she joined the staff of Whitten Funeral Home from which she retired after twenty years of service. In addition to her loving husband, David, she was also preceded in death by a son, David Paul Davis Jr. She is survived by a daughter, Christy Davis and her husband, David Baker; a son, Lawrence Campbell; a brother, William "Billy" L. Dodd Jr. (Karen); two sisters, Patricia D. Wiley and June D. Cunningham (Barry). She is also survived by six grandchildren, Sydney Staples (Isaiah), Lauren Wood (Michael), Erin Davis (Josh), Willie Baker (Kara), Justin Baker (Jordan), Jessica Baker (Stephen); as well as five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Cj, Panda, Pax, and Xavier. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 16, 2018, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Celebrant Polly Starnes officiating. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 17, 2018, at Virginia Memorial Park.
