Carol Peffer
1919-2011
Carol Peffer, age 98, a resident of Belen, passed away on Monday, Dec. 19.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for decades, served with the Women's Missionary Union and made generations of friends. Sewing was one of her many talents, from toys to clothes to her granddaughters' wedding dresses.
Carol spent many years serving in the Pilot Club and Meals on Wheels. After coming to Belen from Missouri in 1948, she worked with her husband, Ted, for many years in their body shop and their glass shop. That industriousness continued as she took care of everything in her home well into her 90's.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Peffer; daughter Patty Allred; brothers Willard Hudson, Harold Kay Hudson and Robert Hudson; and parents Natina Rose Davidson and Frederick T Hudson.
Carol is survived by her two daughters, Marie Douberly and husband, John, and Sandra Curtis and husband Jon; seven grandchildren, Julie Coonrod, Joe Allred, Joyce Stump, John Douberly, Jr., Mitchell Curtis, T. C. Curtis and Anita Olsen and their spouses; 14 great-grandchildren, Caleb Stump, Alyssa Coonrod, Jessica Coonrod, Sophia Allred, Sam Allred, Kayla Risley, Branden Curtis, Mitchell Curtis Jr., Amanda Curtis, Jake Olsen, Jerrad Douberly, Terra Douberly, Melody Livingston and Jeremy Douberly.
All services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Belen on Thursday, Dec. 22, beginning with a viewing at 1 p.m. with a funeral service to be held at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ollie Allred, John Douberly, Tom Curtis, Joe Allred, John Douberly Jr., Mitch Curtis, T. C. Curtis, Paul Coonrod and Joel Stump.

Edith Hughes, third child of Powell Hughes, as the reader has already learned, married her cousin John or Jack Hughes in Prince Edward County, Virginia. They moved to Smith County, Tenn., about the year 1828. They probably came in the same party with John Lankford. They remained in Smith County till about the year 1845, when they moved to Crittenden Co., Ky., and settled about 6 or 8 miles west of Marion, the county-seat, where they both died between 1855 and, 1860. The exact dates of their deaths have not been learned. They were both very old at the time of their deaths.
Their children were 4 in number, as follows:
a-Susan. c-Elizabeth.
b-Nancy. d-Leander.
