Will ( I have copy)
Name:Thomas McCune, the elder
Written:Sept 2, 1786
Description:Decedent
Residence:MT. Joy Township York Co; now Adams County, PA
Date:2 Sep 1786
Prove Date:16 Oct 1788
Remarks:McCune, Thomas. Sep. 2, 1786. Executor: Thomas McCune. Mt. Joy Township.
Children: "big" Samuel, Martha, Sarah, and Thomas.
Grandchildren: "big" Samuel McCune the senior son of Samuel, Sarah McCune daughter of Samuel, Alexander Petit, Thomas Sarah and Blean Davison, children of son-in-law James Davison; Samuel and Sarah McCune, children of my son Thomas, daughter in law Mary McCune an equal part in will)
Executor: son Thomas and Alexander McAlister
Witness: Archibald Tweed, William White, Isabela White
Note: ½ gallon bottle bequeathed to Matthew Pettit in the settlement. Could Alexander Petit be a grandchild from a daughter?
His land is to be sold. Unless his son Thomas choses to keep it at 40 shilings per acre
I wondered if Alexander Petit is a grandson from a daughet, or perhaps he is referring to a 'small' Alexander. Note mention of Matthew Pettit, above. I found a tree for a James Petit, son of a James Petit and Priscilla Darling(of Berwick, York County, d 1771 with brother Thomas of Dover, York County d 1790), who married a Martha McCune in 1755. They had a son Alexander b 1767 in Carroll, MD. Other children as well.
Note: The White's witnesses. David White is neighbor in 1787 Reading land record survey
Mt Joy Township, Adams Co, PA is less than 10 miles from Taneytown, Pa. (Reference grandson Samuel Davidson, who claims he was born near Taneytown).
