Provided by Bryce Stephens (bstevens@netstarcomm.net):
Bryce is descended from Susan Spica/Spicer Grishaw, an older sister of Martha . She married John Ratekin 17September 1796, in Campbell County, KY, and ended up in Ripley County,Indiana, mirroring the northward migration of the family.
Spicer/Spica. I suspect that it would have originally have been Spica. Lord knows where I came across it, but in some kind of surname search I found a small enclave in England where Spica was an old name, and Spica is the name associated with my 4g-grandmother, even though Spicer is found with er father. A slip of the pen? A misheard name? Don't know. Offhand, I'd guess Spica/Spicer was Isaac's mother's surname, but sure haven't found aything to prove it. Grishaws seem to have been in Campbell County for sme time before Isaac removed to Pulaski County, KY, but I've not been able to definitely connet the earlier Grishaws with Isaac's generation.

from stories on ancestry.com:
"Grishaw" is apparently a derived name from another name - probably Grimshaw or, possibly, Grischau or Grischow (German names). Most of the earliest records for Isaac Spice Grimshaw apparently find him in Virginia. These records indicate that he had the name "Grishaw" from the time of his arrival in America or his birth in Virginia - it was not a mistake of a census taker, for example. Isaac married "Lettuce" (probably Leticia, Letitia or Lettrice) in Virginia, and the couple had seven children - Susan, Priscilla, Elizabeth, William, Hannah, Isaac and Martha. Most, if not all, of the family migrated to Kentucky, and many subsequently moved to Indiana. --http://www.grimshaworigin.org/Webpages2/IsaacLettuce.htm
