Abner Davidson married a Martha Spicer in Cambell County, Feb 06, 1806. (Bond dated Feb 1, 1806). James Davison signed bond with Abner. Consent by Isaac G. Spicer and Latus G. Spicer, parents of the bride. Joseph Davison and James Davison wtness. Married by William Flowers, Jr.
Note: Isaac Spicer Grishaw and wife Leticia are sometimes listed as Spice or Spicer.
Also: James Davison is listed in May 1785, in Cambell County, Va, regarding a judgement debt
(Part of Bedford County became Campbell) Tax records style that James had a son named Samuel [the Rev. who married Frances Oglesby in 1802, per the death certificate], and perhaps 2 to 3 more sons.

Abner pops up in 1806 for the first time under his own name (and no horse) and James has lost an extra tithe. (Appears to first show up in 1804 as a tithe under James). Abner disappears from the Campbell Co. tax list after 1809.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note: Pedigree Chart of Alice Jones Greife, grandaughter of Abner, found in estate of Alta Hazel Burnett
Lists Jordon, birth date as 1807
Lists Abner birthdate as 1788 (so I believe this date as opposed to assuming he was 21 at marriage)
Note: Birth date of about 1789 is also derived from when Abner first shows up as fathers tithe, over the age of 16.
Lists Abners first wife as Patsey Grashaw
Lists Abners death date as Oct 1840

Following is from Perrins book,"History of Kentucky" entry on James C. Adams. (Grandson)
"Mrs. Elizabeth Adams was born in Garrard County and is the daughter of Abner and Martha (Grashaw) Davison, both natives of Virginia and early settlers of Garrard County, Kentucky. Mr Davidson was a substantial and prosperous farmer. He was born in 1797, was of English descent, served for many years as justice of his country, in religion was a Baptist and died in 1837. [Note the errors in Death date and probably birth as well. Davison spelling is interesting. ]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Per the census records, Abner would have been born <1780-1790>. Per info from Robert Davidson, provided by Elizabeth Broomfield, he was born in 1784, in Albermarle, Virginia. (I believe they are assuming 21 at marriage. In addition, the Albermarle birth location was a guess, as earlier researchers assumed he was related the Lincoln County, Ky George Davidson family.) But as mentioned above, grandaughter Alice stated he was born in 1788.

Buried near Buckeye Pike, Garrard County, per family information provided by Elizabeth Broomfield
Kentucky Route 39 (KY 39) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The route, part of the State Secondary System, exists in two segments, separated at the Madison-Jessamine county line by the Kentucky River. While there is a boat ramp on each side, there is no bridge or ferry carrying vehicular traffic across the waterway. The southernmost terminus of the route is at Kentucky Route 1247 in Somerset. The northernmost terminus is at U.S. Route 27 Business and Kentucky Route 29 in Nicholasville.
The northern terminus of the southern segment is at Kentucky Route 563 in Garrard County 1.5 miles (2.4 km) south of the Kentucky River. Although KY 39 ends, the roadway continues north to the south bank of the river at the confluence of Paint Lick Creek; there is a concrete boat landing at the site of an old ferry crossing. The segment between Lancaster and the river is locally called Buckeye Pike. The southern terminus of the northern segment is at the boat launch on the north bank.

Abner did an inventory on estate of Robert Luttrell in 1822, along with Daniel Ray (future son-in-law?) and David Ray. Appraisers of estates were usually neighbors; the Rays and the Davidsons lived near Scotts Fork

Abners will:
I, Abner Davidson of the county of Garrard and state of Kentucky hereby declare and publish this as my last will and testament hereby revoking all other will or wills by me at any time heretofore made. Although I am weak in body I believe I possess a sound and disposing mind and memory. It is my wish first that my executors hereinafter named as soon as may be convenient after my decease, sell at public sale all my property of every description and kind except the plantation wherenow I now live and upon such reasonable credit as they may deem expedient and the monies arising from said sale when collected I wish divided in the following manner: one third part to my beloved wife Rebecca to have use and control for and during her natural life and one hundred dollars to Polly McQuerry whom I have raised, and as a token of my respect for her I also wish her to have her bed and furniture which has been set apart for her is not be sold with any other property - the remainder of the money arising from said sale of my property I wish divided into six equal parts - the first part I give to grandson Abner, son of my eldest son Jordon but if my grandson Abner dies without heirs, I wish the part given him to revert to his brothers and sisters in equal parts- the second part I give unto my son Jesse and the third part I give to my daughter Nancy Williamson and her heirs - the fourth part I give unto my daughter Betsy. The fifth part I give unto my grandson Abner Daniel Ray, son of my daughter Patsy Ray and if my said grandson dies without heirs this part given him to revert to his brothers and sisters - the seventh part I give to my son Ahab and I also give him a filly known as the Shakespeare filly and his bridal and saddle which is not to be sold with any other property. I make this last provision because I have heretofore given to each of my children as they left me a horsebriddle and saddle - it is my wish and desire that my beloved wife Rebecca have use control and live upon the plantation if she choses for and during her natural life and after the deceased of my said wife I wish the money hereby given to her to be divided unto size equal parts and descend in such manner as I have directed the remainder of money arising from my sale to my children and grandchildren - it is my wish and desire and I hereby appoint my beloved son Jesse and Daniel Ray executors of this my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my hand this the 19th day of September in the year of our Lord 1840.

Obituary--A.G. Davidson
A.G. Davidson was born January 30, 1845, in Garrard County, Kentucky. He came to Missouri when he was about 20 years of age, and commenced forming ties in social life that joined him in the affections of others, and others to him in bonds of friendship that were not be broken by anything less than death. His first relations fiormed in Missouri were formed at or near Freeman in this county.
He was married November 3, 1878 to Miss M.E. Laffoon. To this union was born one child, a daughter, Rose, who with her mother is left to endure the sorrow incurred by the departure of an affectionate father and husband.
Bother Davidson professed faith in Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, January 20, 1889and lived his profession continuously from that day until the sweet messenger of peace came to bear his soul away to the place of the saints, which was Thursday, March 14, 1912. The deceased was an honored member of the Masonic fraternity and the Woodmen of the World, also. A large number of those who had known him gathered at the West Ubion Baptist Church on Saturday, March 16th, the day of his funeral and burial, to pay their tribute of respect to the memory of one who had endeared himself to them.
The writer desires to take this way of saying that Brother Davidson was remarkable for his mindfullness of others. He never cared to give vent to his sorrows, lest so doing woulkd distress others.I never heard him complain about his relation or experience with anyone. If there were any he did not have an interest in, he never made it known to me.We were together day and night. He assured me that his home was open to my entertainment at all times. He was companionable, always making one feel that he meant to be all that he pretended to be.He will be missed, not alone by the relatives, but by all that knew him.
He served his community: he served his Lord's church: and now it can be truly said that he rests from his labors and his works of which we are justly proud to follow him. For him to live was Christ and to die was gain.May the God of all grace encorage the hearts of those who are left to mourn his going away, and sustain them for the trials of this life. While we feel impoverished by his departure, yet we ought to be thankful for the bebefits received from his life and feel that heaven is nearer by his having entered into his eternal rest.

Abner Davidson, Dead
Abner Davidson, about 68 years of age and one of the oldest and highly respected citizens of the western part of the county, died last Thursday afternoon at his residence,, for miles southeast of Cleveland, after an illness of some weeks. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon, the service being conducted by Reverand Plum of Belton. The burial was made at West Union cemetary,
Mr. Davidson had been a resident of the western part of the county for something like forty years, and for a number of years past had resided on the farm where he died. He had resided continuously on that farm since moving from Freeman twelve or fourteen years ago. For nine or ten years previous to that time he was associated with John S, Johnson in the flour mill at Freeman. He leaves a wife and one daughter.
Card of Thanks
We wish to thank our many friends who helped to care for our dear husband and father during his late illness.Nothing that loving hearts could conceive or kind hands could do was left undone, and we are thankful to Almighty God for such dear friends in this, our sad bereavement.--Mrs. A.G. Davidson and daughter

DAVIDSON'97Abner G. Davidson was born in Kentucky, Jan. 30, 1845, and died at Cleveland. Mo.. March 14, 1912. After his conversion on Jan. 20, 1889, he united with the Baptist church, and from that day has served the Lord with gladness. He was an advocate of everything good and stood ready to lend a helping hand. He was a kind neighbor and a faithful friend, and his home was conspicuous for genuine hos- pitality. He loved his home, he loved his family and never failed to tell them so. We shall miss him.

He is with God and God is over all. " Nora D. Williams.

Provided by Charles Laffoon, GUNIT@aol.com <mailto:GUNIT@aol.com>:
From the Cleveland, Cass, Missouri (1890-1990) year book.
Martha Elizabeth "Mattie Laffoon was born December 28, 1858, at Mount Pleasant, Cass, Missouri, the daughter of John East Laffoon and Rose Ann (Powell) Laffoon. She was married twice. Her first marriage, Nov. 24 1878 in Cass County, Mo., was to Abner B. Davidson, who was born January 30, 1845. Little is known about him except that he was a farmer. He died March 14, 1912, and was buried in West Union Cemetery. They had one daughter, Netina Rose Davidson, who married Frederick Thomas Hudson. Five children were born to Rose and Frederick: Robert, Frederick, Carol, Willard, (or Bill), and Harold K. Hudson. Robert was a motorman for the San Francisco Street car system. Carol married Theo. F. Pfeffer and lived in Belen, New Mexico. Willard married Helen (McGinnis) Chrismand and was in the construction bussiness in Ellensburg, Washington. Harold K. was in the bank Construction busines in Hartley, Iowa. We do not have infomation on their children.
Mattie's second marriage was to James Buchanan Davenport on Feb. 20, 1916. The wedding was held in the parlour of the bride's father John East Laffoon, near Cleveland. James Davenport, born September 11, 1848 had been married previously to Margaret Jane "Maggie" Davidson, who died Dec. 20, 1914.
Mattie and Jame B. Davenport lived in Kansas City unitl his death on November 9, 1923. He was buried in Freeman, Missouri beside his first wife.
After his death, Mattie lived with her daughter, Rose (Davidson) Hudson. She died Jan 12, 1944, and is buried in West Union Cenetery, beside her first husband. One large stone with the name "Davidson" marks their graves. Thus, Mattie was buried as "Mattie E. Davidson."

Per Freeman Cemetery records, there is an Abner Davidson who died 04/11/1880 in Freeman, Mo. He is said to be "48 years, 6 months and 6 days" which would match my birth date exactly off 1 year. (I believe my birth date is from Kansas census records). Wife in cemetery is shown as Martha Elizabeth! I checked with author and they said that this is not on the tombstone, and may in fact be a mistake.
Inscription: "Dearest husband, thou has left us and thy loss we deeply feel, but tis God who has bereft us, he can all our sorrows heal."
Cass County Times Courier, dated Thursday, April 22, 1880, has an obit. A Memorial to Abner Davidson also published, Thursday May 20,1880.

From Missouri
Mr. Abner L. Davidson, a former citizen of Douglas county, but more recently of Cass county Mo., called on us Thursday, He reports the crops a usually good in the border counties of that State, and everything quiet. Many of the paroled rebel soldiers are returning- some settling down on farms, others going to work at trades, and all are manifesting a spirit of peace and a determination to conduct themselves as becomes good members of the community. No bushwhacking has been known for several months, the last gang having surrendered some time since. The larger portion of them have gone South. No danger now exists in traveling through the cou nry. In fact, as Mr. Davidson expressed it, Jim Lane might ride all over Cass and Jackson counties with his name chalked upon his hat, and meet with no harm. Missouri has experienced an entire revulsion of feeling since the first year of the war. The question of slavery has been forever settled; and none more thoroughly recognize this fact than the people of Missouri. They now welcome with pleasure any acquisition to their population, come from what State it may. Already a considerable immigration from the East has commenced. These men come to buy farms, to erect workshops, and to open stores. No better farming country in the world can be found than Cass and Jackson counties.
The adoption of the new Constitution has inaugurated a new era for Missouri, and has contributed vastly to establish oonfidcnce in the stability oi society .there. The c itizens generally arc pleased with the re sult, and men of the old free States n ow feel safe in investing and settling there. see in the future a gloriou s career for Missouri. Through the fiery trials of the pas t four years she has come out so thoroughly purified that no taint of the old curse remains, and Missouri the New bids adieu to Missouri the Old.

Per Brynn Shulz : "Abner H. is in the Freeman cemetery (Cass County Mo) born Feb 16,1831 Died Apr. 11 1880 .Yes, he is with the Musick Family"
From information below, I believe that Abner married Margaret Musick and had the following children:
Mary Georgia Ann (Not known where buried) married Alonzo Hook
Sarah Frances (buried in Freeman) married Rutherford Hook (Sarah is listed with Anselm Davidson in 1870 census)
Margaret (buried in Freeman) married James Davenport)
Abner later married Isabella, and had children:
Lucy/Kate
Robert Lee (died young)
Nellie (died young)

An A. Davidson is listed as an 1875,1876 AND 1877 Justice of the County Court, Cass County, per "History of Cass County" PUBLISHED 1917.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Per Freeman Cemetery records, there is an Abner Davidson who died 04/11/1880 in Freeman, Mo.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
obit:

He was about fifty years old, was born in Kentucky, but moved to Missouri when a small boy, had lived in Cass County since 1851. Was elected to the County Court in 1874, was Mason of the rank of Knight Templar. No burial information.
Death's Doings
Judge Abner Davidson died at his residence near Freeman last Saturday, and was buried Monday with honors of Free Masonry, of which craft he was an honored member. He has been intimately connected with the history of Cass county, having filled many honorable public positions. He was about 60 years of age.
Abner Davidson Probate:
Died April 11, 1880, heirs: Fanny Hook, George Ann Hook, Lucy Davidson, Nellie Davidson & Maggy Davidson
Margaret Jane Davidson Davenport obit states she was the daughter of Judge Abner Davidson. Later mentions that Abner also "used to operate the old mill at Ryan's bridge in the early '70's."
Margaret Jane Davidson's death certificate lists Margaret Musick as her mother.
Note: John S. Johnson Sr and Jr listed in probate papers. Possible Isabella's father/brother? Abner died intestate. (John S Sr married a Nancy and a Catherine)
Isabella is daughter of John S. Shown in 1860 census as daughter.
Isabella became Gregg.

Judge Abner's daughter, Georgia Anne, is listed as being born in Lawrence, Kansas on her daughter Annie's death certificate.
Judge Abner's daughter, Margaret, is shown as having mother Margaret Musick on her death certificate. An Abner married Margaret Musick in Jefferson County -- same time Jordan's family was there, and close in time to marriages of James and Nancy Davidson.

July 1860 -- listed as 29 years
