Mary Helen Mars (Oakes) Davidson was the daughter of Sanford and Mary (Jones) Oakes. She graduated from Cornell University in 1884 - this was the first class to graduate women. She was the 2nd wife of Rev. William Clarence Davidson. They were married in 1886. He was a minister in the Northwest Indiana Conference and Northern New York Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
Welcome To Lowville
Northern Christian Advocate - 1901
Over three hundred members and friends of the Lowville Methodist Episcopal Church met in the church Friday evening, May 17, to tender their congratulations and extend the right hand of a loyal friendship to the newly appointed pastor, Rev. William C. Davidson and his worthy wife. The church was beautifully decorated for the occasion with cut flowers and potted plants. Many friends from the Presbyterian and Baptist churches were present to add their good will and kindly greeting. Words of warm welcome and good wishes were spoken by pastors Van Dyke and Dean, of the above churches to which Mr. Davidson fittingly responded. Horace Bush, Esq., acted as master of ceremonies, while the Ladies' Aid Society, King's Daughters and Epworth League had charge of the decorations and refreshments. The loyalty of the members of this church is well known and doubtless the pastor will be earnestly sustained in his efforts to forward Christ's glorious kingdom. The Times and Republican both characterize Brother Davidson as a scholarly and finished speaker and predict a successful pastorate.
