OBITUARY, Brookville (IN) Democrat, Thursday, May 12, 1932:
Joseph Davidson, age 65, died Friday, May 6, at his home in Laurel. Surviving are the widow, three daughters, Elva and Mary, at home, and Mrs. Leonard Derbyshire, of Mays, two brothers, Alex Davidson, of Buena Vista, and Ross Davidson; and a sister, Mrs. James McCarty, of Andersonville. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Laurel Methodist church by Rev. Crawley and Rev. Trowbridge. Burial was in the Hopewell cemetery.
OBITUARY, Connersville [IN] News-Examiner, Monday, June 6, 1932:
Joseph Harlin, a son of Louis A., and Sarah E. Davidson was born in Franklin county, Ind., December 24, 1866, and departed this life May 6, 1932, aged 65 years, 4 months and 12 days.
He spent his childhood, youth and early manhood on a farm near Buena Vista. He was educated in the public schools of Franklin county. When a young man he was associated with his father in farming, milling and general store business.
He was untied in marriage to Estella Croddy Nov. 21, 1891. To this union was born three daughters and one son, the son having passed away in infancy.
The deceased united with the United Brethren church and showed by his daily walk that his trust was in his God. He endeared himself to all by his fairness and congeniality. He was a kind and loving husband and father.
Of the near relatives left to mourn their loss is the widow, Mrs. Estella Davidson, three daughters, Elva Jones, Grace Derbyshire and Mary Davidson, two grandsons, Newell Jones and Charles Derbyshire; two brothers, Alexander Davidson of Laurel and Ross Davidson of Marion; Mrs. Carry McCarty of Andersonville, one brother, Charles Davidson having passed on before.
He never sought by trickery to gain
The false enjoyments cunning men obtain
He laughed and loved, played fairly and was kind,
And never let life's bitters sour his mind;
As if that voice wept whispering, "Be true."
He showed the world what one man can do.
At the close of the day he fell asleep - "Like one who wraps the drapery of his couch about him and lies down to pleasant dreams."
