75 Years Ago: Oct. 20 , 1938

"Uncle" Billy Mann, one of the county's oldest citizens, passed on to his final reward at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Alice Johnson, two miles south of Ellington on Friday, Oct. 14, 1938. William Mann was born on Black River in the Mann Settlement on April 10, 1851, and was more than 87 years of age.

He was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Croy, to which union seven children were born, all of whom survive.

The children are: Fred Mann, of El Paso, Texas; Mrs. A.M. [Paulina Jane] Smotherman of Babler State Park; Mrs. Lula Carter and Mrs. Marvin [Effie P] Allen of St. Louis; Mrs. Harry Copeland of Little Rock, Ark.; and Mrs. Alice Johnson and J.T. Mann of Ellington.

Mr. Mann spend most of his life in Reynolds County, living on his old place on Doe Run Valley for more than 49 years.
