Per Susan D. Jones:
"I wish I could tell you more about Richard Longley. His obituary in the KC paper was about one sentence with nothing about his family. He didn't die THAT young! He was born 16 October 1871, probably Callaway Co., Missouri [death certificate] and died 25 December 1943, Kansas City,
Missouri [death certificate]. His father Thomas Longley died in 1873, and his mother Zera Ann Chaney died in 1875, leaving three orphans. They went to live with some Longley relations. The oldest child was a girl, and she became a school teacher, and I don't think she ever married. Then there was a son Charles, and he had four daughters who married and moved all over. And the third child was Richard. He was living in a boarding house in St. Louis and working as a laborer in 1900. In 1910
and 1920 he was in Kansas City, MO, but Uel was born in Kansas, according to the census. They always spelled his name Uel, both in the censuses and in the KC City directories. Richard's one-line obituary said he was a farmer (in Kansas city????) and didn't mention wife or son. Were they divorced? Anyway, in the 1945 KC city directory, Sarah is listed, and Uel is living with her, apparently not married. That's all I know about them. Somewhere I have those KC city directory listings and I
could find them and tell you what Uel was doing for a job. Maybe he wasn't listed with one!"

Death certificate states he was married, wife was Sarah, and Sarah is informant. died of Broncho pneunomia. Lived in Kansas City for 25 years.

Longley Davidson.
Married, on the 2d inst., at Kansas City, Mo., by Rev. Mr. Campbell, of South Park Baptist church, Mr. Richard L. Longley and Miss Blanche Y. David-son. The bride is a daughter of the late James A. Davidson, of Lecompton town-ship, in this county, who came to Kansas in the early '50s. Mr. Longley is a pros-perous merchant of Kansas City, and is one of the rising young men of that city. The wedding was at the home of Mr. and Mrs. P. T. Jones, and was attended by many of the friends and relatives of the bride and groom. After the ceremony the company sat down to an excellent supper, prepared by the skillful hands of Mrs. Jones. A very pleasant evening was spent by all present, and the festivi-ties continued until a late hour. Kansas City will be the permanent home of the young couple.

Richard Longley does not appear in any of the family photos and I have heard of no other children.

Marriage announcement provided by Rick Baker:
Married
MISS Sarah B. Davidson of Lecompton and Richard S. Longley Kansas City, at the home of the brides aunt Mrs. P.T. Jones of 1718 Park St. Kansas City, Mo. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Campbell of South Park Baptist Church. The wedding was a quiet one only relatives and intimate friends being present. The bride is well known here and has many friends who wish her much happiness. The groom is a very popular young man in society and church work. For eight years he has been connected with his uncle in the dry goods business. After the cere- mony, the guests were invited to the dining room where they found the table spread with a repast only Mrs. Jones knows how to prepare. The young couple received many useful and beautiful presents. At 10:30 a carriage called and Mr. and Mrs. Longly were driven to their new home, followed by a shower of flowers.

The name "Rutherford Ralph", parents, birth and death info is from the Cass county cemetary records

John Hook provided information on death certificate
address:
4411 Woodland Ave, Kansas City

per ancestry.com tree provided by Faye Dyess (fdy@comcast.net)
birth location

From ancestry.com entry of Christina Schweisberger (cSchweisberger @earthlink.net):
Rutherford was a confederate veteran of Irwin Freemans regiment which
was the regiment responsible for Quantrill's Raiders. Family stories of
Ralph Hook's family say he was aquinted with Jesse and Frank James.
This is probably true since his regiment was the same one responsible
for the Raiders. Frank James along with Cole Younger were members of
Quantrill's army.
A story isrecorded in the book Freeman at 100. It is a book about the
history of peopleliving in and around Freeman Mo. In the story
Rutherford Hook was captured with about 6 other men. The captors which
were union soldiers hadthe seven mendig there own graves and all were
shot except a man named Davis and Rutherford because of his age.
Also mentioned in the story is Billy Anderson. The storysays he is the
same Billy Anderson of Quantrill fame.
