From Bill:
I wonder if a son in the home in 1810 and 1820 was instead the John Davidson (born around 1795) who married Elizabeth Brown in Charlotte County., VA in 1819? John and Elizabeth did not appear on the 1820 Charlotte Co., VA census with Allen and James....so, could they have been in the home of Thomas back in Botetourt? Could John have been the unknown 5th son?

Pittsylvania County's present boundaries were established in 1777. The County borders North Carolina to the south, Henry County to the southwest, Halifax County to the east, Campbell County to the northeast, Bedford County to the northwest and Franklin County to the northwest.

Note: The older Commissioner's Districts were replaced by county militia units (Regiment 107, for example), I believe prior to the War of 1812. From then on, Pittsylvania County had only two military divisions, and those military divisions held sway for a long time--not sure when they were replaced by districts but probably after the Civil War.
