Everett Arnett Davisson, 61 years old, judge of the Vermillion Circuit Court since Jan. 1, 1943.
Judge Davisson, member of the Vermillion County Bar for 30 years.
.Judge Davisson made his home at 526 Elm Street, Clinton.
.Born in New Richmond, Ind.. Dec. 16; 1884, Mr. Davisson was the son of William C. and Samantha Arnett Davisson. He attended grade and high schools in New Richmond and received his law degree at Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind. graduating with the class of 1912.
.To Clinton in 1914
.He first practiced in Terre Haute, Ind. where he was associated with Paul N. Bogart and the late Ora C. Davis of that city. He later moved to, Clinton and served as prosecut6r of Vermillion County from 1914 to 1918.
Judge Davisson served as federal referee in bankruptcy in this district from 1923 to 1943.
Succeeded Mark Lyday
.He resigned the referee post in 1942 when he entered the election for the Vermillion Circuit Court bench on the Republican ticket. On his election in the fall of 1942, he succeeded the late. Mark Lyday who had been appointed to the judgeship on the death of G. Edward Bingham. For the past 20 years, Mr. Davisson had been a director and attorney for the Clinton Building and Loan Association.
.It is almost axiomatic that men who lead active political lives make enemies along the road. The late Judge Everett A. Davisson was the exception to this rule. In the election which resulted in his elevation to the bench of the 42nd Judicial Circuit, not even his bitterest partisan opponent could suggest that he was not an honorable. man. They respected him.
.Judge Davisson was a gentleman, if one ever lived. He was gentle in voice and action. His life was well-ordered and useful. His business dealings were direct and honest. His legal practice was clean and ethical. He was a church and civic leader ; in short he was everything that we Americans have been taught constitutes a good citizen.
.Even among those who had opposed him for purely political reasons, there must have been a feeling of satisfaction to know that he occupied the high office to which he was elected. Members of the bar, not only in this but in adjoining counties, were quick to voice their approval and the number of cases venued to his court clearly demonstrated the confidence felt in his fairness and in his legal ability.
.His death, of course, came as a bitter shock to the entire community, for the belief was general that he was recovering and would soon be able to resume his duties. Quiet and kindly, efficient and intelligent, he was the type of man any community might be proud to claim . . . the type of gentleman any community can ill afford to lose.

Who are Charles V parents? Chalres is not living with Bertie in 1910, nor with James in 1910. I wonder if he isn't Bertie's little brother. Bertie is shown as next of kin on WWII draft registration.

Per Bill: a son of Young Davidson named Robert M. Davidson married a Miss Cook, and her mother was a Miss Johns who was a member of the same overall Johns family as the Elder Edmund Johns who was the minister who performed the marriage of Samuel Davidson to Eleander (spelling?) Lea in Campbell Co., VA. This is per an excellent large file that was developed by a researcher of the Johns family.
Note: That same overall Johns family also married into DNA Family 16 that was in Charlotte Co., VA.
As I recall, you suspect that Young and this Samuel were both sons of the David Davidson who was on the 1810 Campbell Co., VA census. By the way, I asked the author of the Johns file if he knew of a living male Davidson who was a descendant of Young Davidson....but no response.

"Henry C. was raised by Harry Hinton of Hurricane Township"
From DNA Family 7 member: 176380
Henry Davidson was the father of Theodore Clinton who was a son by a third marriage of Henry Davidson whose first two wives died, but with children also. Henry Davidson's father was John and his mother Elizabeth Spencer Davidson are listed in the 1850 census with children. All, John and the eldest children and wife, coming into IL from TN with other family members after a short stay in IN and in IL by 1830. Other family members of John were his father Blane L, brothers James and Nicholas. A sister named Mary/Polly Davidson who was apparently widowed and must have married another Davidson. Probate shows that Elizabeth Spencer died on Jan 13, 1857 noting that her husband, John, had died the preceding year of 1856. Probate records indicate that Blane L, the father of John, bought a coffin for his wife in Oct of 1838. A sale bill of goods and chattel on Dec 6, 1845 lists Blane L as being deceased.

"My grandmother was Nannie Davidson who married Albert Coonfield. Her birthday was May 9, 1879. They were married in Arkansas. Nannie is the only name we had for her. I t could be short for something???She and Albert had many children: Minnie,Ben Haskell, Willie and Julia. At a point in time Nannie left with Julia who was my Aunt. I am interested in researching my family. Could we be the same family? My mother Mildred was a daughter of Nannie from another marriage."

Per Sandra S. Temple family: "Well educated. He was raised by John R. Jr and wife. He worked his way through college. He was a professor at numerous colleges, then started a medical school in New York. He retired in Tryon, North Carolina."
His grandfather is John R; his uncle is John R Jr. He was raised for a time by Uncle John R and his aunt ..his fathers brother ... Mary Ella Coonfield Davidson. Per letter below, there were apparently 5 children in the family, he was the oldest of 4 boys and one girl.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Copy of p2 of letter sent to Grace Davidson Briggs from Ben Coonfield:
I want to show my wife something of the Ozark, mountain areas - to see something of the farm which did at one time own quite an acreage. My middle name - Randolph - is his middle name. My first name - Benjamin - is from my other grandfather, Benjamin Coonfield. All this happened because I was the first grandson of either family. My grandfather Davidson (John R. senior ogd) was quite a person. My late brother - Theodore - and I, when we were very little boys would save tobacco for our grandfather so that he would tell us more of his "war stories". He was quite a story teller too, most of which were true stories. My Uncle John - your grandfather - was also quite a person who was always trying to have fun of us all, but he was never careless enough to harm us. Quite later on, and when I needed a friend, he and my aunt "Ellie" took me into their home long enough to allow me to get some things straightened out. Uncle John was quite a hustler as he managed very well on his farm, making things he needed, even to scraping out a pond so that he coukld go fishing whenever he wished. Also he planted quite an orchard, cherries, apples, peaches and plums. My auntie canned, preserved, and even made much of the garden so that the family had quite enough food for all of us when we would drive over to spend the weekend with them. As I look back a bit I can see why I love both my auntie and my uncle. I believe that Unckle John lived somewhere in or near Alma when he died.
I have always been a bit disappointed about the Davidson boys, because neither of them were interested in an education. I am also very sorry about the "passing" of Raymond. His widow, Hester, writes to me as I also write to her. I never really knew her at all, having met her very briefly only once; when Mary and I stopped off in N Little Rock in 1954 to see Amanda Kirby, the one who officiated at my birth, as she was quite a "mid-wife" to all of the baby births in her area - way back in the late 1890s and the early 1900s. I believe that her son Archie, still lives in Ozark.
Annie and I still write each other as I am trying to keep "track" of Uncle John's family. I am the only son of my family, still living of the four of us, and also I am the oldest of these. My sister, Minnie, lives in Tulsa as you may know, but she is in very poor health and may not live so very much longer. Her first husband was Jeff Duncan, as you may know. Although he was not a good manager in the family, he was always good to us, his in-laws. They reared six children, all but one are still living and are very good citizens. Minnie, I believe, did most of the rearing because her husband was actually partly sick most of the time, having a glandular situation which interfered with his metabolic balance, a situation we refer to as "giantism", causing certain parts of the body to become unusually large.
Did you know the Floyd Williams family? Floyd was one of my heroes as I grew up to the age of 12 years. He was always close to us in a way, watching over us boys, especially about our behavior pattern. I have admired him all these years, and when I have the opportunity to do so, I always visit with him and with Ovelia too. His brother and his sisters always referred to him as , "Brother", and they looked to him as their guide and counselor. Some time ago, I wrote a short article to the Spectator about some of the influences of Floyd, hoping that the paper would publish it.
You have referred to my father as a warm and reasonable man. Yes, he was that and more. He always had some sort of difficulty with my mother whom he loved very dearly, but whom he could not guide or influence. Our family could have been one of the best had she carried her load, both as a mother and as a wife. I do not know where she is, or whether she is living or dead. I have just space enough to close this off and to say that we certainly want to meet you and your family. I enclose a couple of photos to help you know what I may be at my age. Keep well - please.
Affectionately "Cousin"
Bemnjamin Coonfield
