WILLIAM L. WHISMAN of Yorktown, Va., died Sunday, May 25, 2003. Born in Covington, Va., he resided in Huntington, W.Va., for many years before moving to the Peninsula area. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and Army. Mr. Whisman was also a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, the American Legion Post 48, and the Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Lucy C. Whisman; sons, Robert G. and Michael L. Whisman; daughter Sarabeth Fetter; grandsons, Joshua Whisman and David Fetter; brother and sister-in-law, Linwood and Ginger Snead of Florida. Services will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall immediately following the services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 250 Fox Hill Road, Hampton, VA 23669, or the Boys Home of Covington, Va. Arrangements by Peninsula Funeral Home, Newport News, Va.
