General Notes: Husband - Agnew Davidson

Agnew was in Bedford Co, Va., per tax list. I am listing him here as he may be out of the James Davidson/Campbll Co Va line. (As is Samuel in the 1796 census, below) Blaine/Blair Davidson witnessed James Davidson's marriage. A James P Davidson signed Blair/Blanes surety.

Davison, Agnew Mcklister, Sarah Anne 29 Mar 1806 Tennessee, Surety was signed by Godfrey Carriger Jr. Christian Carrieger also signed (witness?). Note: Nicholas Carriger signed brother William's bond. There was a Godfrey Carrieger Jr family, with sons that included a Nicholas, a Godfrey and a Christian.

Carrigers Landing, Elizabethton, TN
I have just gotten back from Tennessee, and found this cemetery. My Daughter and I had been search for the historical marker where the Stoney creek poured into the Watauga River and was about ready to give up when a local said to ask the people at the Hunter community Baptist church across from where the marker should be. They said that the land where it was was sold and the marker was thrown away, but just across the river and to the 1st road left was the old Baptist church and school. The Carrigers helped to establish this church when they first settled the area. Then behind the church, up a steep grass cover road that ran along side of the old church was the old cemetery. We followed her instructions and came across a beautiful building( in it's day) that was aver grown with trees, and vines and showed it's years of neglect. To the left of the building is a mobile home, to the right is a dilapitated old house, and across the road is another mobile home. between the church and the old house is an old grass covered road that leads up the hill. There is a "no trespassing sign between the mobile home and the church, the the people at the new church said that it was ok. We parked at the bottom and walked up. Once we got there, we saw a nice little cemetery, that was over grown in prarie grass, but easy to get around. Probably 100 or so stones, some on veery good shape, and others that were damaged, and others that were nothing more than rocks. We found several Carrigers, most lived from 1850's to the 1920's. I was guessing 2nd or 3rd generation to Godfrey sr. . If you go there, it is on county rd 19e east of Elizabethton TN. in the Hunter community/ Stoney Creek community. From Elizabethton on 19e go east about 3 miles there will be the Hunter Community Baptist Church on the left, and a carwash on the right and a BP gas station on the right, turn right between the carwash and the gas station. Cross over Stoney Creek and turn left (this is the 1st left from the gas station). The road will curve, there will be a mobile home on the left, then the old church, then the old house. You are there. Be careful not to bother the locals to much, I parked next to the driveway of the mobile home on the right, and when i got back , he didn't seem to happy. Also watch your step in the cemetery, some of the old graves have sunken alot. Just a little trivial info, The ground where the old and new churches are, was all donated by the Carrigers, and supposably most of the ground around there was owned by them too. But when I asked about Carriger's Landing, hardly no one had heard the name. Also A little further down the road( off of 19 e) there is an old gristmill on the right, but idon't know it it is the Carriger mill.

Obituary:
Daily IOWA State Press, IOWA City Iowa, July 30, 1901

Died, at the home of her brother, six miles west of Shueyville. On the evening of July 23d, Mrs. Mary Davidson fell asleep in Jesus, after a brief illness of a few days. She was married to Ahab Davidson in 1854, and to them were born five children, three of whom are living, while two children and her husband have preceeded her to that bourne from which none return. In early life, she expressed faith in Christ and united with the Baptist church. The funeral services were held under the shady trees of her home where she had spent years of service for those whom she loved and was attended by old friends and neighbors. She will be greatly missed in the home where her aged father, her two brothers and herself lived as quietly and peacefully - She was 74 years, 4 months and 7 days old when she died.
